From April 29 to May 5, 2025, Riders of the Storm Association proudly participated in the “Rebirth: Climate Crisis and Migration” project hosted by KUFF Refugees and Minorities Solidarity Association in Madrid/Alcobendas, Spain. This international youth mobility project brought together youth workers from seven countries to raise awareness on the environmental impacts of wars and climate-induced migration.
Project Highlights
As global climate change continues to affect living conditions worldwide, climate refugees are increasingly becoming a reality. Unfortunately, current international regulations do not fully address their legal status or protection. This project focused on educating youth workers and communities about:
The environmental consequences of wars, including resource depletion and water contamination,
The growing issue of environmental and climate refugees,
Solutions to prevent human-caused environmental degradation, and
Promoting climate action and sustainability awareness.
Our Participation
Our team from Hungary contributed actively to all project activities, which included:
Creating digital collages of cities before and after wars to raise public awareness,
Participating in presentations and discussions on the negative impacts of wars on water and natural resources,
Developing historical scenario workshops imagining how the environment might have evolved without wars,
Producing artworks from recycled materials displayed in public spaces,
Engaging in collaborative puzzle activities with local youth to promote environmental consciousness.
Impact and Takeaways
Participating in this project allowed Riders of the Storm Association youth workers to:
Gain innovative approaches to non-formal education and youth engagement,
Strengthen their knowledge about environmental sustainability and climate refugees,
Share experiences and practices with international partners, fostering global cooperation,
Inspire young people in Hungary to take action on environmental protection and anti-war initiatives.
Moving Forward
This project has reinforced Riders of the Storm Association’s commitment to environmental education, youth empowerment, and cross-cultural cooperation. By applying the insights and methods gained, our team will continue to promote climate awareness and sustainable practices within Hungary and across Europe.
Through initiatives like Rebirth: Climate Crisis and Migration, Riders of the Storm Association demonstrates that youth organizations can be powerful agents of change, raising awareness on global challenges and fostering active, responsible citizenship.
